The Gardens at Kennesaw Mountain and Parsley’s Catering are Atlanta’s first exclusively green event facility and caterers. I visited the Gardens at Kennesaw and the property is picturesque! But the landscaping is not what makes The Gardens at Kennesaw Mountain an innovator. It is Atlanta’s first green event facility.
Green features at The Gardens at Kennesaw Mountain include:
- They have an active solar panel system that uses clean and renewable energy to supply much of the facilicty’s electrical needs. This system produces 145kWH each month.
- Low flow sinks – These sinks use different valves and aerators to have lower flow rates than traditional faucets.
- Dual-Flush Toilets – These toilets have 2 buttons that control have much water is used per flush.
- All of the appliances and refrigeration equipment are energy efficient and use refrigerants with low ODP and GWP.
Parsley’s Catering, which is Atlanta’s first green catering company, operated in conjunction with The Gardens. Parsley’s only uses produce grown locally by local organic farmers. Not only does this ensure the freshest produce and help local businesses, but it also reduces the amount of gasoline used by shipping the produce long distance and reduces the amount of pollution associated with shipping.
Parsley’s is also conscious about the amount of waste it produces. They use a full line of dishes, utensils, and sandwich boxes which are not just bio-degradable, but also compostable. These are products are made from corn and potato byproducts and resemble regular paper plates and plastic forks. It’s really cool. I took a plate and a fork home to play with and it is amazing that they are compostable.
I applaud the efforts of The Gardens at Kennesaw and Parsley’s Catering for setting a good example for their respective industries. I enjoy seeing the “green” movement growing and I love meeting the individuals who understand that our actions affect our global community.
