Concrete Manufacturers Develop Green Concrete
Baltimore based, Ceratech, Inc., designs, manufactures, and supplies high performance cements. They engineer these products for the Department of Defense, construction, transportation, and pre-cast concrete industries.
In 1996, Ceratech made a splash with “green” materials technology by utilizing waste streams in commercially viable concrete repair products. They combined inert materials and various waste streams to produce an innovative cement-like product. This product features highly flexible base chemistry with unique property and performance attributes.
Last year, Ceratech replaced the traditional portland cement with reclaimed fly ash and slag. This is significant because portland cement accounts for six to eight percent of human generated carbon dioxide in the environment.
Ceratech is not the only concrete manufacturer to develop a “green” concrete. Another company recently created a concrete made with titanium dioxide, a chemical that is chemically active in sunlight, called TX Cement. TX Cement nuetralizes air pollutants such as benzene, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxide. This could be effectively utilized to reduce air pollution anytime new concrete is being used for building foundations, roadways, etc.
This is more evidence that the “green” movement is here to stay and building steam!
