Hello Everyone,
I have completed my studying for section 2 Water Efficiency for LEED New Construction v2.2. The information that I have learned is quite incredible. It is also very relevant as we are dealing with a serious drought.
This section consists of:
WE Credit 1.1 – Water efficient landscaping – Limit or Eliminate the use of potable water for landscape irrigation. In order to earn this credit, potable water use for landscape must be reduced by at least 50%.
This is accomplished by plant species, irrigation efficiency, use of captured rain water, use of recycled water, and use of municipal water designed specifically for non-potable use.
WE Credit 1.2 – No potable water use or no irrigation – This credit can offer an additional point if WE credit 1.1 is earned.
WE Credit 2 – Innovative waste water technologies – The intent of this credit is to reduce the amount of wastewater generated and potable water demand. This credit is earned by reducing the amount of potable water used by 50% OR treat 50% of wastewater on-site to tertiary standards. This is accomplished by using high-efficiency water fixtures such as composting toilets and non-water urinals. Other options include using captured rainwater for toilets and biological nutrient removal systems.
WE Credit 3.1 – Water Use Reduction – The intent here is to maximize the building’s water efficiency and reduce municipal water demands. To earn this credit, the building’s water use must be 20% less the water use baseline calculated for the building. This is achieved by installing water efficient fixtures and using grey water for non-potable water needs.
We Credit 3.2 – Water use reduction – This is the same intent as WE credit 3.1, but requires a 30% reduction in water use to earn the extra point.
The next section that I am studying is Energy and Atmosphere. I have finished the prerequisite section and it is the most complicated material that I have encountered in the book so far. Not only is it very technical, it requires numerous calculations and is very long. I hope to have it done in the next week or so. Until then, I am going to be writing my other eco-friendly blogs.
Thanks for reading

Good recap of credits for me sitting in the office.
My Leed reference guide is at home and in the office i dont get much time to do much except browse the net sometimes.
nandan,
Have you gotten through Energy and Atmosphere yet? It sucks…a lot of calculations and I don’t have a strong background in that stuff. I hope that there aren’t too many questions about that section on the test.
Thanks for reading
